CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE:


More than 48 years of service to the society, by imparting training in various technical fields for the poor and needy people, the Government Industrial Training Institute, Salem is still a high proficient institution. To cope with the change in the industrial needs this institution is focusing more in the uplift of the knowledge and skill of the trainees to match the industries.  Leading from front, is our present Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Employment and Training, with the backing of both the Union and the State Governments, to explore new horizon in technologies and implementing new schemes.


COE PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The COE has been initiated with a view to contribute the industries as well as the nation, the much required multiskilled  personalities.  Along with the multiskill training, Enterpreneurship and communication skills are also added in their cap.  This institution was upgraded into "Centre of Excellence" in the year 2007 with the goals given below.

To train the trainees with the job oriented practical concepts, with the usage of modern equipments and techniques and to make them fit to the current reorganisational structure.
         
To have a reserve of multi skilled personal for the industrial needs in future the programme will be delivered to trainees as

(i) 30% of class room learning and
(ii) 70% of practical training.




In this institute, under Centre of Excellence (COE) scheme, training is imparted in Fabrication (Fitting and Welding) sector.

The duration of the course is
(i)          12 months institutional training in Basic skills under Broad Based Basic Training (BBBT)
(ii)      6 months institutional training in Advanced Moudules.
(iii)     6 Months Industrial training in Specialized Modules under Apprenticeship Training Scheme.

          The Broad Based Basic Training consists of 6 modules, each of 8 weeks duration as given under
FBT 01          Basic Fitting and Measurements
FBT 02          Basic Sheet Metal work and Fastening.

FBT 03          Basic Machine shop practice
FBT 04          Basic Welding
FBT 05          Metals and Surface Finishing techniques.

FBT 06          Basic Electrical, Electronics and Computer skills


After completing these basic 6 modules, the trainees are allowed to opt for any one of the advanced module training.

FAT 01          TIG/MIG welding

FAT 02          Structural/Pressure Parts Fitting

FAT 03          Structural Welding


On successful completion of 6 BBBT modules and an Advanced Module training, the trainees are guided to undergo the Specialized Module training under Apprenticeship training in the major fabrication industries in and around Salem.


These kind of multitasking is widely appreciated by the Industries.  The successful trainees have a red carpet welcome by the Industries.
